Yellowstone Park
July 18 -19, 2016
Day One
This was our girls first trip to Yellowstone and it was especially exciting for Elin because she learned about the park in Kindergarten. On our way to the park, that super loose tooth suddenly fell out.
We traveled from Townsend to West Yellowstone and entered the park through the west entrance in the afternoon. We drove straight to Old Faithful to see the geyser. We did not have too many animal sightings on this day; some big horn sheep we saw at Big Sky before entering the park, a few elk and a bald eagle.
We went for a walk along the boardwalk outside the Old Faithful Inn to see the hot springs and watch the geyser erupt.
We left the park in the late afternoon and had a fabulous dinner at a ranch just outside of West Yellowstone.
We spent the night glamping at Yellowstone Under Canvas.
We have stayed with this company in Glacier two summers ago and we knew that it was a fun way to "camp" with some of the extra's including hot water, showers, flush toilets and real beds.
Our kids thought it was SO fun. It was a very beautiful place.
Elin slept great in her sleeping bag/cot all night. Anikka joined us in the bed around 4 am. Everyone but me slept great. I was cold and at 4 am the cows in the pasture next to the campsites started mooing...so, that was the end of sleep for me. And yes, the tooth fairy was able to find Elin's tooth and left her a few dollars and a special Yellowstone coin.
Sunrise was amazing. (I was the only one up to see it....)
Before we left, the girls had hot chocolate and played games at the reception center.
Day Two
We got an earlier start into the park on the second day.
We did a short walk to see some hot pots
then headed east to Canyon Village to see the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. It was amazing!
We headed north over Dunraven Pass where we saw a bear (didn't get a picture) and a whole herd of bison.
Last stop was Mammoth Hot Springs.
then we headed out of the Park.
What an amazing, beautiful, inspiring place. The girls had a great time.
Our last stop of the day was Chico Hot Springs were we had dinner and spent an hour swimming
before heading back to Townsend. Late night but we had a fabulous 2 days.
The next morning we packed up the car and headed back to Seattle. We had a 13 hour drive home and our two seasoned travelers never complained once.
