Spring Break - Park City UT March 19 - 28, 2021
With the global pandemic still going on we opted to spend Spring Break somewhere that we could drive and settled on Utah which is a 10 (ish) hour drive from Colorado Springs. Utah also gave us the opportunity to see a lot of our family and friends and James and the girls could ski.
We loaded on Friday, March 19th for the trek north and west. Our first stop in Utah was dinner at Brick Oven in Provo where I used to work in college.
Yes, the pizza IS just as great as I remembered and so is the homemade root beer. The building had been given a make over outside but inside was basically the same as always. There are so many memories for me there.
We also drove around Provo to show the girls where we lived in Provo and the BYU campus. Side note: We did not know each other in Provo.
After dinner we headed to Salt Lake and stayed Friday night with my sister Leina. The girls always love to snuggle up with Diva. Luckily Diva is a good sport.
On Saturday we met up with Olivia and had lunch at Silverfork Lodge which is up Big Cottonwood Canyon. James picked up Livi and Leina and I met them there.
After lunch, James and the girls headed up to Brighton to ski with Olivia for the afternoon. They also met our friend Neil Argyle and his girls there but didn't end up skiing together much as his girls were more advanced than ours.
When they were done skiing we had dinner and played games at Leina's with 3 of her kids. We had a great time.
Sunday morning we packed up at Leina's and headed to James' sister Julie's house for an overnight stay. We made pizza for lunch and spent the afternoon visiting. James' friend, Jody Elquist, (from his mission) came over for dinner.
Then the Argyle's came over for a visit and dessert. The girls had as such a fun time together. We were happy to be able to visit with our friends.
After all the company left, the girls had hot tub time with Livi.
Monday morning we packed up again to head to Park City for the rest of our week. We stopped at Cafe Rio for lunch. Livi was on her lunch break from school and met us there.
On the way we met with our "other" daughter Katie to see her new house. (forgot to take a photo). Although it was a quick visit we were happy to be able to spend a little time with Katie. We stopped by Swig for a drink and cookie on our way up the canyon.
We checked into our condo, went to the grocery store and just relaxed for the evening. We stayed at the Wyndham property with our time share points and had a great 2 bedroom condo.
The next day (Tuesday) James went skiing in the morning while the girls and I took the gondola up the mountain to Canyons Resort Village. The gondola was a whole 59 steps from the door to our building.
It was beautiful blue sky day in the Village. We looked around in the shops then headed back down.
Next stop was ice skating at Park City Resort.
Then back to the condo for dinner and pool/hot tub time (which we ended up doing every night).
Wednesday James took the girls skiing. They loved Canyons resort. I met them in the Village with lunch.
Our friend, Will Bowman, came into town that night and Julie also came up for dinner and to spend the night.
Thursday was titled "The over 50 ski day". James, Will, Julie and John Jones (all over 50) went skiing for the day and had a great time.
The girls and I headed down the canyon to Sandy to visit my friend Vonda Andrews. She made us kougin amman (amazing pastries) and we had a nice afternoon visit.
We were back in time for dinner out at a nice steak restaurant in Park City.
Friday James and Will went skiing in the morning. James met up with us after lunch so we could do a little shopping in downtown Park City. Our girls love their destination t-shirts.
Saturday, our last day in Park City, Leina came up with Ella and Noah. We went shopping at the outlet malls then took the gondola up to Canyons Village.
We had dinner at the condo then said goodbye to Leina and her kids and Will. We had such a great time with all of them.
Sunday we packed up the car and headed back home across Wyoming. We had a beautiful view of the Rocky Mountains as we crossed into Colorado from Wyoming.
It was so nice to be able to see so many of our friends and family in one trip. We had a great time in Park City and the girls would love to go back and ski in Utah again.
Next up....tropical vacation....
