This year, due to high flight prices into the Durango airport, we booked an early flight into ABQ and rented a car to drive to Ignacio. It was a pretty long day of travel but my super trooper kids took it all in stride like they always do.

We stopped for lunch in ABQ before starting our 4 hour drive to Ignacio and every sign we saw that Elin didn't know how to pronounce (like Rio Rancho) she would say "that means lost turkeys" and that is how it became the joke of our trip.
Our first day in Colorado was 4th of July. The girls played with their cousins, we spent some time in Oscar's pool.

and had a BBQ for Oscar's (40th) Birthday.
The kids also had some fun holiday dress up stuff and glow sticks. We weren't able to see fireworks. Due to the fire ban, there were no fireworks shows. The kids didn't even seem to notice or care.
The next couple of days we spent mostly relaxing, playing in the pool and spending time with our family. We also went bowling at the rec center.

On Friday we met up with Oscar's family for yummy breakfast at the Durango Diner.

After breakfast, the Scoffields drove up to Purgatory to do the Alpine Slide and other summer activities. It was a gorgeous sunny day at 9,000 feet.
Both my girls LOVED the Alpine slide. Anikka was able to ride down with James (you have to be 6 to go down alone) and she rode down without ever applying the brakes. Elin was nervous because she had to go down on her own. But I rode on a sled next to her (double tracks) and we went nice and slow. By the end she was a lot more brave and let off the brake a little. I was proud of her for doing it. The girls also "panned for rocks",
and Anikka did the bungee trampoline. That girl likes things fast and high!
We spent the rest of our time in Colorado just relaxing and spending every afternoon in the pool.
The kids had great time just hanging out, doing magic and playing other little games.

James and I even managed to get away for a lunch date in Durango.
We played at the park on our last morning in Colorado and I took the girls to Ute Park to show them the real teepee.
My girls were so sad to leave after our one week stay. They love CO and playing with their cousins.
From Ignacio we drove to Santa Fe to spend one night there before heading back to ABQ for our flight home.
We got into Santa Fe in the late afternoon and looked around the plaza for a bit (most things were already closed) then had dinner. The girls thought the mariacha band at the restaurant was fascinating. They were very good.
The next morning we headed back to the plaza bright and early for shopping and breakfast. The girls also wanted to go in a few of the historic churches.
After a quick dip in the hotel pool we headed back to the airport.
Our flight home was uneventful. James and Anikka fell asleep so Elin and I took selfies with them.
We also flew over the Grand Canyon which was pretty exciting.
Another epic, fun, amazing trip to CO in the books. My girls look forward to this every year.
