For Thanksgiving this year we drove to Salt Lake City. We left on Saturday the 23rd and returned Sat the 30th. It takes about 10 hours to drive there (with no stops). We drove north through Steamboat Springs this time so that we could go to Dinosaur CO (not really anything great) and crossed into UT to stop at Dinosaur National Monument.
The fossils we saw were 130 Million years old! It was very interesting to see.
We spent our time in Salt Lake visiting friends and family. We had breakfast at CJ and Katie Wilcox’s house. Katie was our nanny when Elin was a baby. It was great to catch up with them.
I had lunch with my long time friend Vonda and we visited our friends Neil and Aubrey Argyle. We met them in Seattle when we were first married and neither couple had kids. I forgot to take photos at these meet ups. :(
The very best part of visiting friends like Katie, Vonda and the Argyles is that we can pick up just where we left off even after years of not seeing each other. It’s like no time has passed, the sign of real friends.
We did some shopping in Park City at the outlets and at the mall.
We went to lunch at the Porcupine Grill for Olivia’s 22 birthday.
We went to Swig and Twisted Sugar for their amazing Twisted cookie….
… and the girls went to see the movie Wicked while James went to see Gladiator 2.
I visited with my Aunt Paula on Wednesday morning.
Ward, Sherry and Kiely drove up from St George on Wednesday and we spent the getting evening ready for Thanksgiving.
Olivia was the planner of this years menu. She did an amazing job organizing everything.
My girls were in charge of a few of the appetizers
Olivia and Kiely did 75% of the cooking. We had a delicious meal…
…and spent the evening watching a movie and playing games.
Friday morning Ella and Noah made us a pancake breakfast. Leina was in Hawaii for the week so we didn’t get to see her.
We did a little Black Friday shopping for the new Taylor Swift book and Christmas presents. We also did one last Swig run …we were in town 6 days and went to Swig 4 times.
Later that day we went to downtown Salt Lake to shop at City Creek Mall. My family had tickets to a Christmas concert in the Tabernacle. It was my girls first time in the Tabernacle. The concert was beautiful and a great way to start the holiday season. We wanted to see the Temple Square lights but due to the restoration happening on Temple Square there were very few lights.
After the concert we met up with the rest of the family for shopping and hot chocolate.
Saturday we packed up and headed home, it was a great week in UT.
